Where does the time go?

31/8/2012

It's that time of year again. Gift of the Gab time. Although we've yet to confirm a venue, we're planning on business as usual from September. I've been out and about with my seasonal cajoling and have a number of excellent speakers lined up but as always, we need more. There seems to be a lot of women interested this year (and about bloody time, I say!) so lads, get yourselves in gear before the grand takeover is complete.

The newly wedded Jeremey F Wheeler will be back on stage to entertain and delight and I've tried my damndest this summer to get into enough trouble so that I'd have material with which to plug the gaps while the judges are voting.

We're sticking with the IHBC Give a Little Campaign and I'm ecstatic to be able to report that we're heading down there in the next couple of weeks with some suppliers to get quotes to refurbish their windows. Well done all of us for raising 700 000 much-needed forints last year.

Deep down in the dimmer recesses of my soul, I'm secretly hoping that the 2013 trophy will go to Ireland. Perhaps it's fortunate that I'm not a judge. We've had English and Scottish winners so far... and it would be nice. That said, there are some very, very promising non-native speakers in the line-up so I'm hedging my bets.

Mark your diaries and drop me a line if you're interested in competing.
